Ancestry.com is the world's largest for-profit genealogical company. It allows customers to gain access to genealogical information, historical information, and family trees so they can better understand their heritage.

The website has many different subscription models at varying price points. Customers can choose to sign up for a monthly fee, which is discounted if they commit to a certain amount of months.

If you are no longer finding Ancestry.com useful, you can choose to cancel your account and end your subscription. Keep reading for the instructions on how to cancel your account.

Cancel Ancestry.com Subscription Online

  1. Go to www.ancestry.com

  2. In the top right corner of the page, select 'Sign In.'

  3. You can log in with your email address or username, and password. Alternatively, you can also sign in with your Facebook account.

  4. Once you've logged in, navigate to the top right corner of your page, and click on your name. A drop-down menu will appear, click on 'Your Account.'

  5. On the right side of the screen, there will be a small menu titled 'Subscription Options.' Find and click on 'Cancel Subscription.'

  6. You will be asked to select a reason why you are canceling your subscription. Choose the most relevant option for you. The options include:

    • The service is too time consuming

    • I am done researching my family history

    • The website is too hard to use

    • The service is too expensive

    • I'm just taking a break

    • The site did not give me enough help and guidance

    • I've reached a dead end in my family history research

    • It was too hard to search for information

    • I didn't realize my subscription was going to renew

    • The service doesn't have records for my family

    • Other

  7. There is a text box if you wish to provide comments or feedback to Ancestry.com.

  8. Click 'Continue.'

  9. On the next page, scroll to the bottom, and select 'Continue to cancel.'

  10. At the bottom of the page, select 'Cancel my membership.'

  11. You will receive a confirmation email from Ancestry.com that your membership has ended. If you don't receive an email within 30 minutes, sign back into your account and ensure that your account has actually been canceled. Under 'Your Account' it should say 'This subscription has been canceled and will not renew.'

  12. You will continue to have access to your account until the end of the current billing period.

Note that after you have canceled your subscription, any family trees that you've created on the website will remain on the site. If you wish to remove these, make sure to make a personal copy and delete them from your account, before canceling your Ancestry.com subscription.

If you have signed up for a free trial, you will need to cancel your account before the free trial ends to avoid being billed.

If you had committed to several months, cancelation fees may apply.

Cancel Ancestry.com Subscription Through an App

If you have purchased your Ancestry.com subscription through the Ancestry.com app, you will need to cancel the subscription through that app provider. For example, if you purchased the subscription via iTunes, Google Play, or Amazon, you will need to cancel via your subscriptions through iTunes, Google Play, or Amazon.
