Thanks to the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, you can earn points when you use your qualifying Chase credit card and later use those points to make purchases. If you want to get the most out of this program, read on to learn how to gain as many points as you can.

Earning Chase Points

In general, you can earn points by making purchases in the following categories:

  • Airline tickets
  • Car rentals
  • Department stores
  • Restaurants
  • Drug stores
  • Gyms
  • Grocery stores
  • Gas stations
  • Home improvement stores
  • Hotels
  • Insurance
  • Internet
  • Local transit
  • Movies
  • Office supply stores
  • Shipping
  • Social media advertising
  • Utilities
  • Wholesale clubs

Keep in mind that not all purchases made in these categories will qualify for points. If the merchant lacks the relevant merchant codes or payment processing technology, the purchase will earn no points.

As a general rule, every dollar you spend in any of these categories will earn you one point. That can change depending on the kind of card you have, though.
